Dunbar Chess Club has the first meeting of the season organised for Wednesday 15th September. The club meets every Wednesday at Dunbar Bowls Club from 7.30pm. All ages and abilities are welcome and there are plenty of chess sets, boards and clocks. This year we are hoping to participate in team events with other chess clubs across the South East of Scotland as well as have our own internal league. So there is plenty of competitive chess as well as chess just for fun for juniors and adults alike. If you are interested in finding out more or would like to come along and have a game, now would be a great time to get involved. Either just drop in on a Wednesday evening or please ring Chris James, Club Secretary, on 07733 895 529 |

Members of the society visited Pilmuir on 24th July 2010 Pilmuir is a small laird’s residence of 1624, orange harled, twos storeys and a dormered attic with a central square staircase tower rising a storey higher. All gables are crowstepped. The dated stone panel bears the date and the initials of William Cairns and his wife.In the 18th century a new front door was formed and pine finishing and thick astragals were introduced. There is a walled garden and a contemporary doocot with 906 nesting boxes.

Dunbar & District History Society’s new season of talks will begin on Tuesday 14th September. Dr David Anderson will open with his story of the Dunbar merchant family, the Falls, with a talk entitled ‘Fa, Faw, Fall, Dunbar’s Merchant Princes.’
Talks will continue on the second Tuesday of each month, with meetings taking place in Our Lady of the Waves Church Hall at 7 for 7.30 pm. New members are always welcome.
Due to the exciting renovations taking place at Dunbar Town House, the Society’s local history room will be closed for the next few months. Committee members however are happy to continue to help with queries, where possible, and can still be contacted by phoning 01368 863734. |

A member of The Sealed Knot met up with some of Dunbar's Community Councillors & History Society today, to lay a wreath at the memorial of Dunbar's battle of 1650. It was on 3rd Sept, 360 years ago that Cromwell had one his greatest moments, defeating the Scottish Army at Dunbar. There are plans to have an information board at the site as soon as possible, and access to Doon Hill , where the Scottish Army descended from. More pics - Read More...
